Power-Up Cafe

Universal Studios Hollywood will celebrate their first anniversary since opening Super Nintendo World on February 17th. Super Nintendo World has been a massive hit, guests have been able to feel like they are in a video game as they step into a green warp tunnel, through Princess Peach’s castle, and into the Mushroom Kingdom. Combine the aesthetics of the land with a powerband and you’ll get instant nostalgia, a kid playing in the Super Mario game! Building on its success, soon, Universal Studios Hollywood will bring a little Super Nintendo World taste to their upper lot!

Power-Up Cafe will be a quick-service cafe in the New York Street part of the upper lot. You can’t miss this pop of color as you walk into Universal Studios Hollywood.

The quick-service Super Mario themed cafe is intended to give guest entering, or those who weren’t able to secure a Toad Stool Cafe reservation (which book early every weekend), a taste of the Mushroom Kingdom. They’ll have quick served items and snacks, along with cute drinks that fizz when the Mario Themed sugar cubed is added and mixed.

On our first visit to their soft opening we tried the “Super Mushroom Fizz” which comes with a strawberry super power-up mushroom sugar cube and is a lemon lime soda with strawberry popping pearls. Unlike the drink cart in the lower lot, these drinks are more refreshing and bubbly.

Along with drinks, the Power-Up Cafe will have food and snack options. They’ll have two calzones, one of which is vegetarian. The 1-Up Mushroom Calzone is green mushroom shaped filled with spinach, green peppers, mushroom, mozzarella cheese, and basil pesto. We were fortunate to try the Super Mushroom Calzone.

This red shaped mushroom calzone is filled with pepperoni, sausage, mozzarella cheese, and tomato sauce. Both mushroom calzones come with cheesy dots on the outside.

As for the snacks, they will offer popcorn and a Super Mario themed pretzel.

The Fire Flower Pretzel will be served with three dipping sauces: Chipotle Cheese, White Queso, and (our personal favorite) mustard.
As we briefly mentioned, the Power-Up Cafe will be “soft-opening” from time to time to train their employees. The official grand opening of the new cafe will be February 17th. On the same day, Universal Studios Hollywood will be celebrating its Super Nintendo World anniversary throughout its So-Cal theme park.
